(Topeka) Kansas Secretary of Revenue, Joan Wagnon and Director of Vehicles, Carmen Alldritt announce the arrival of a new standard vehicle license plate design, which will soon be available to Kansas motorists. The new design, known as the Ad Astra plate, features the Great Seal of Kansas, with a light blue background, and a new number/letter combination, 123 SAM.
Kansas statue requires the plate design to be changed every few years. The last plate design change was in 2001. Unlike past “reissues” which occurred within a one year period, this design will be “phased in” over a period of several years, saving taxpayers several million dollars.
County Treasurer offices will use existing current design plate stock before they will begin issuing the Ad Astra plates. New plates will only be issue to persons who have purchased a vehicle and have no plate to transfer to the newly acquired vehicle. Current issue plates with the Capital Dome design will remain valid with annual renewals, through 2010. at which time they will be replaced with an Ad Astra plate.
Sample Ad Astra license plates are available for $5.50, by contacting the office of the Director of Vehicles at 785-296-3601.
