Under 21 License Information

This information pertains to Regular driver's licenses, commercial driver's licenses, moped licenses, and farm permits that are issued to applicants that are less than 21 years of age or turning 21 when their license expires.

All licenses will expire on the applicant's 21st birthday, regardless of how near or how far away that birthday might be.

The license fee for a first time license is $20 per class regardless of how long the license will be valid.

The license fee for renewal of an existing license is $3 per year extended, per class

This does not affect you unless you apply for another license before your 21st birthday. If you do, your license expiration date will be changed from your 22nd birthday to your 21st birthday. The fee in that case will be a $8 photo fee.

When you apply for another license, whether it's at renewal time or prior to that, your expiration date will be extended one year - until your 21st birthday. The fee in that case will be a $3 license fee and a $8 photo fee for a total of $11.

You can renew it no earlier than on your 21st birthday.

HB 2042 passed in 2007 gave us the authority to grant an automatic 45 day extension on the expiration date (for driving privileges) of any license expiring on the licensee's 21st birthday. You should go in as soon as possible after your birthday and renew.

If you are not active military you can not renew your license by mail. You can however, apply for a six month extension.
